Data Acquisition

Data Acquisition

Exceptional Sample Quality

Over the last 20 years, Benthic has developed systems which extend the range of environments in which geotechnical data can be gathered. PROD seabed systems have gathered data from 20m to 3,500m water depth. TracPROD has gathered data from shoreline to 25m.

Benthic’s ability to gather in situ data over a wide range of metocean conditions has proven instrumental in providing high quality data to clients.

High quality data acquisition:

  • Seabed slopes beyond 20 degrees
  • Difficult weather conditions
  • Ultra shallow, shoreline waters inaccessible to traditional drill systems
  • Ultra deepwater to 3,500 meters
  • Soft soils to challenging heterogeneous layers

Field Reporting

Field Reporting

Thorough, Reliable Factual Reporting

Benthic delivers a comprehensive Field Report following every project. This factual report details the geotechnical and operational data collected during the offshore campaign in accordance with ISO 19901-8 Marine Soil Standard.

The Field Report is the ultimate record of the offshore campaign; which data was collected and by what means. It is paramount that data be captured once, entered once and reviewed as close to the source as possible. Benthic’s data management and reporting system, together with our team of qualified geotechnical engineers and technicians ensure that as accurate and detailed a data set as possible is captured and reported. Our Factual Field Reports typically cover: In situ testing and sampling results; observations and discussions regarding data quality; geotechnical procedures, standards, equipment specifications and calibrations; health, safety, security and environmental data; vessel specifications; positioning; personnel; daily progress reporting, incidents reporting, operational procedures, equipment specifications and certifications.

Laboratory Testing

Laboratory Testing

Superior Testing Services

Benthic provides onshore and offshore laboratory testing services. While offshore, Benthic is fully equipped to perform core logging and offshore laboratory activities. Following offshore operations, Benthic can manage the sample transportation to our Brazilian onshore laboratory, or an accredited third party onshore laboratory, where our geotechnical engineers will oversee testing and reporting.

Offshore laboratory tests are typically executed according to the standards recommended in ISO 19901-8. Common offshore laboratory testing includes but is not limited to: Undrained Shear Strength determination via Laboratory Vane, Torvane, Pocket Penetrometer, Fall Cone, and Undrained Unconsolidated Triaxial Test; Point Load test for rock samples; Water Content; Unit Weight; Qualitative Carbonate Content; and Multi-Sensor Core Logging.

Should other tests be required offshore, Benthic prides ourselves on being flexible to meet clients’ needs. The more data captured closer to the source, the better. Don’t hesitate to reach out to discuss the feasibility of extending Benthic’s offshore laboratory capabilities.

Data Interpretation

Data Interpretation

Gain Valuable Insights from Your Data

Our engineers and geoscientists have the knowledge and experience required to produce accurate data and thorough interpretations. Our expertise includes studies for anchor and suction caissons, mud mats, pipeline foundations, jack-up foundations, gravity-based structure foundations, fixed jacket platforms and other shallow gravity-based structures.

Combining geophysical and geotechnical data acquired offshore together with advanced onshore laboratory data, Interpretive Reporting considers the data as it applies to your specific use case, be it anticipated infrastructure, regional characterization or geohazard studies. The scope of data interpretation can vary considerably and Benthic strongly encourages early engagement to tailor site investigation campaigns accordingly to ensure the best possible value from the investment.

Local Convenience Options

Benthic partners with vessel owners and/or brokers to charter vessels of opportunity specific to our client’s project needs.

We procure fit for purpose, reliable, well managed vessels from owners with exemplary safety records.

Due to the portability of PROD and the equipment spread, Benthic is able to mobilize onto vessels which deliver the highest level of local content and are fully compliant with all local rules and legislation.

  • Containerized spread allowing seemless mobilization on vessels of opportunity
  • Increased local content
  • Established relationships with well-know, reliable vessel owners
